I bought a Tascam 688 midistudio used. Everything works, but the transport will simply stop and the counter automatically reset to 0. This happens way too often. It does this in Play, FF & Rewind. Any help, including a reference to a knowledgable & experienced service tech would be appreciated. |

I own a used Tascam 688 Midistudio, works great. If you need a manual go to Vintage Manuals. Their web site is www.w7fg.com I paid $25 for a used manual, you can also buy the repair manual. I still don't know anyone who works on them, let me re-phrase, qualified to work on them. |

Hello Edan, I too have a Tascam 688. At the moment I am awaiting a motor to repair it. I have used it for a good few years both for recording and as a live mixer. Do you have the user manual ? It really is important to read it , as it is a very complicated bit of kit. To try and help you, I would need to ask a few questions. Have you set up Scenes for recording and playback? it comes with factory defaults on scenes 1-12. 12 is normally used for final mixdown. when you are recording, you must select the record buttons for the channels you are using. The cue monitor controls let you hear whats on the tape, but you have to have the button pressed to send the signal to the output. I use headphones normally for monitoring, but if you are using amp and speakers then make sure you have selected the monitor out button or you wont hear anything. Are you seeing levels indicated on the meters ? I will await reply , if you need anymore help. Its a brilliant bit of kit , once you get used to it, especially if you link it to computer for the midi. I use Cubase. Cheers John
