I've just acquired a used BOSS SE-50. It works, but has a real problem. When I restore the factory presets and turn off the machine, the presets don't stay in memory. Similarly, I can't write over the existing settings, except temporarily, each time I turn on the machine, which is a royal pain in the neck. I've followed the procedure in the manual, which is also how I used to do it with a previous SE-50, with no problem. Can anyone advise me on how to get the settings memory working again? |

You need to replace the Lithium Battery every 3 years. Boss SE 50 RAM Battery Change Instructions I never dealt with the company but if you have one and the battery (CR 2032) needs changing, here's is how to do it. 1. Remove the cover by taking out the six screws on the sides and back. Leave the front alone. 2. Remove the three screws by the midi ports on the back. 3. Remove the one screw that holds the circuit board to the little metal piece that goes next to the midi ports. 4. Looking down at it with the front of the unit facing away from you - on the left there are two places where the board is attached by plastic and pins, on the right there is one smaller one. Carefully ease the board free. When it's free, flip it forward. (The board is harnessed in the front.) The battery is on the underside of the board. 5. After changing the battery carefully push the board back into place. Don't mash any of those pins. To get it back into place, make sure the little metal piece is in place first (but don't put any screws back yet). Angle the back end down slightly to get it into the right position. 6. Put back the screws and cover and restore factory settings by holding the Parameter (arrow up) and Value (arrow up) buttons and switching on the power. It will ask you if you want to initialize, press Write, then Write again. Now it's as good as new.
